CBG oil explained — and where to buy it in Brisbane

4 June 2026

CBG oil is cannabigerol, a minor hemp cannabinoid in an MCT carrier. What it is, how it compares to CBD and CBN, and where to buy it in Brisbane.

CBG oil costs more than CBD oil of the same bottle size — and the reason is plant chemistry, not marketing. A mature hemp plant contains only a small fraction of cannabigerol compared with the cannabidiol (CBD) that dominates most extracts, so significantly more raw plant material is needed to reach the same milligram figure. That scarcity flows straight through to the shelf price. At CBD Oil Brisbane we stock CBG oil alongside the full cannabinoid range and post it from within Australia to Brisbane CBD, Fortitude Valley, South Bank, Chermside and across QLD. This page explains what the compound is, how the price is justified in plain supply terms, and what to look for on a label before you buy.

Why CBG oil costs more: the scarcity story

The answer starts inside the hemp plant before harvest. As the plant grows it produces a single precursor acid — cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA — and then plant enzymes convert the bulk of that CBGA into the building blocks of the other major cannabinoids: the precursors of CBD, THC, and CBC. The conversion happens throughout the growing cycle. By the time the plant is mature and harvested, nearly all the CBGA has been metabolised away. What remains as free cannabigerol in the finished plant is a comparatively small residue — typically a single-digit percentage of the total cannabinoid content.

That is the supply constraint. To fill a bottle with, say, 3000mg of cannabigerol, a processor needs to handle many times more raw hemp than it would for a 3000mg CBD oil of equivalent purity. The cost follows the input ratio, not a premium brand decision. When you see a CBG oil priced noticeably higher than a comparable CBD oil, that ratio is the honest explanation.

What cannabigerol actually is

CBG — short for cannabigerol — is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids in Cannabis sativa L., the plant family that gives us hemp. It is classed as a minor cannabinoid, which is a statement about quantity in the plant, not about importance or quality. The nickname "mother cannabinoid" circulates online and in trade material; it refers to the CBGA precursor story above — CBG comes first in the plant's chemistry and most of it is converted into the others on the way to maturity. "Mother" is a position in a biosynthesis pathway. It does not describe anything the compound does in a person, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Cannabigerol is a distinct molecule from cannabidiol. The two share the same plant of origin, but they are separate compounds with different chemical structures. A CBG oil and a CBD oil are not interchangeable; they are oils built around different cannabinoids, each in a coconut-derived MCT carrier. The oil we sell carries only cannabigerol as its primary active compound — it is not a blended product.

CBG vs CBD vs CBN: composition side by side

Brisbane buyers often arrive at this page already holding a CBD oil and wanting to understand what they would be adding or switching to. The clearest comparison is by makeup.

  • CBD oil (cannabidiol) is the most plentiful and the most common starting point. We sell two profiles. Our full-spectrum CBD oil is a whole-plant extract that keeps CBD together with the minor cannabinoids and natural terpenes from the same extraction, with a legal trace of THC held under 0.3%. Our broad-spectrum CBD oil takes the same whole-plant base through an additional step to remove THC entirely, so it measures at 0% THC.
  • CBG oil (cannabigerol) is a single-cannabinoid oil centred on the compound explained above. It is not a version of CBD oil; it is its own molecule, less abundant in the plant, and carrying the supply-driven price premium described at the top of this page.
  • CBN oil (cannabinol) is a third distinct cannabinoid. CBN forms as hemp ages and oxidises, rather than being synthesised by the fresh plant. Our CBN oil is supplied as a THC-free isolate in the same MCT carrier and 50ml bottle format.

Each of the four families — full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, CBG, and CBN — uses the same bottle size and the same neutral carrier, which makes milligram-per-millilitre comparisons direct and clean.

Our CBG oil: what is in the bottle

Here is the plain specification of the CBG oil we supply to Brisbane and across QLD, with nothing added beyond what appears on the label.

Each bottle is hemp extract in a coconut-derived MCT carrier oil — a food-grade, neutral fat that holds the cannabigerol in solution. Bottle volume is 50ml. The number on the front label is the total cannabigerol content. We stock three strengths:

  • CBG oil 1000mg — 20mg cannabigerol per ml; entry-level concentration; from $89.95
  • CBG oil 3000mg — 60mg cannabigerol per ml; mid-range; same 50ml bottle
  • CBG oil 6000mg — 120mg cannabigerol per ml; highest concentration we carry

Every batch is tested by an independent laboratory. The Certificate of Analysis for any batch is available on request and confirms the actual cannabinoid figures and the THC content. The range is imported from EU Labs in Amsterdam and dispatched to you from within Australia. This is an over-the-counter hemp-derived oil, described by composition. It is not a prescription product and we make no claim that it functions as one.

Reading the label: what to check before you buy

Label literacy saves confusion when you are comparing products side by side, particularly given the price range across CBG and CBD options.

Two numbers matter most. The total milligrams (e.g. 3000mg) tells you how much cannabigerol is in the whole bottle. Divide by 50ml and you get milligrams per millilitre — the actual concentration of each dose. A higher-strength bottle does not change the composition of the oil; it concentrates more cannabinoid into each drop. Next, confirm the carrier (ours is always coconut-derived MCT) and verify that a Certificate of Analysis is available from an independent lab, so the number on the front has been verified in writing rather than simply stated.

Choosing between the 1000mg, 3000mg, and 6000mg options is a question of concentration and budget, not a medical decision. We publish no dosing guidance for any condition. If you want a plain walkthrough of how the dropper and millilitre measurements work, our guide to using CBD oil covers the mechanics — the same approach applies to a CBG oil.

Is CBG oil legal in QLD?

CBG oil sits within Australia's national regulatory framework for low-THC hemp and cannabinoid products, administered federally. There is no separate Queensland rule that overrides the national position. The practical consequence for buyers in Brisbane and across QLD is that the THC content of any oil you purchase matters — which is one direct reason the Certificate of Analysis is worth reviewing.

For the current national position, go to the source: the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) publishes Australia's regulatory stance on cannabidiol and related cannabinoids. Our oils are sold to adults 18 and over and are described only by their composition. We post throughout Brisbane CBD, Fortitude Valley, South Bank, Chermside, and the rest of QLD.

FAQ

Why is CBG oil more expensive than CBD oil? Because the hemp plant produces far less cannabigerol than cannabidiol. Most of the plant's starting precursor (CBGA) is converted into other cannabinoids before harvest, leaving only a small fraction of CBG. More plant material is required to reach the same milligram figure, and that input cost is reflected in the price.

What is cannabigerol? CBG (cannabigerol) is a minor cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa L.. A CBG oil is that compound dissolved in a coconut-derived MCT carrier. The "mother cannabinoid" label refers to the biosynthesis sequence — most of the plant's CBGA is converted into other cannabinoids as the plant matures — not to any effect.

Is CBG the same as CBD? No. They are chemically distinct molecules from the same plant. CBD (cannabidiol) is the dominant cannabinoid and is available in full-spectrum and broad-spectrum profiles. CBG (cannabigerol) is a separate, less abundant compound, sold as its own oil.

Does the CBG oil contain THC? That depends on the specific batch, which is why we provide a Certificate of Analysis confirming the cannabinoid and THC figures for every batch. Request the COA for any batch before purchasing.
